Recover Deleted Data & Files

Deleted files aren’t necessarily gone forever, but they’re not always easy to recover.

Traditional Hard drives and Flash drives work differently. When you delete a file on a hard drive, its data isn’t immediately erased from the disk. Instead, the pointer to that data is removed, so that the data can be overwritten. It may be possible to scan the hard drive for leftover data and restore deleted files that haven’t yet been overwritten.

The deleted or lost data on Flash Cards & Mobile Phones won’t disappear completely either, it still resides on the memory area with its space marked as ready to be overwritten. Hence, is recommended to stop using the device after losing data which will increase the chances data recovery.

Recovering Deleted Data from Hard Drives

On Hard Drives, the Windows NTFS system retains file description information after the file has been deleted, making it relatively easy for file recovery software to find the file. Other systems, however, like UTF and FAT, destroy more information about the file when it’s deleted, making it more difficult for file-recovery algorithms to guess the location of the file on the disk.

Formatting with FAT results in the destruction of a large amount of data and rewriting that section of the disk with zeroes, significantly reducing the likelihood that you’ll be able to recover your data.

In the case of file system damage, the number of files that can be recovered depends on the extent of the damage and what allocation information is still available to the recovery software. If enough information is present for the recovery software to repair the file system and accurately locate previous files, we should be able to recover substantial amount of data.

Recovering Deleted Data from Mobile Phones, Memory Cards & Flash Drives

Flash memory is inside your Smartphone, SD Memory Cards and USB Flash Drives. It is a type of memory chip that retain information without requiring power. Inside the flash chip, data is stored in cells protected by floating gates. Flash memory devices use two different logical technologies -- NOR and NAND -- to map data. NOR flash provides high-speed random access, reading and writing data in specific memory locations; it can retrieve as little as a single byte. NOR is used to store cell phones' operating systems; it's also used in computers for the BIOS program that runs at start-up. NAND flash reads and writes sequentially at high speed, handling data in small blocks called pages. NAND flash reads faster than it writes, quickly transferring whole pages of data.

Recovering Data from Flash Memory requires a Pre-Image Operation to Read a Physical Image (DUMP), which is then created into a Virtual Image using Forensic Tools, the Logical image then obtained is used to recover data. Data rebuilding may be required in case of data corruption.

Recovering Deleted Data from Solid State Drives (SSD)

If your files were on an SSD, then it's bad news. They work differently from hard drives and USB flash drives as they perform housekeeping to clear out unused cells. Although many recovery utilities will include SSDs in the list of media they can recover from, the likelihood is that any retrieved files will be corrupt.

When a file is deleted from a solid-state drive, that file is immediately erased with the TRIM command to free up the space, and ensure the SSD can be quickly written to in the future. That means that you can’t recover data deleted from solid-state drives—once it’s gone, it’s gone. Very old solid-state drives and old operating systems like Windows Vista don’t support TRIM, but modern solid-state drives and Windows 7 through 10 all support TRIM.

Act fast! The sooner you realize you’ve accidentally deleted a file, the better your chances of recovering it.

IMPORTANT!!! Once you notice your loss, Please don’t save anything to the Media. Do not Download any Data or Install any File Recovery Utility as it might overwrite the very files you're trying to recover.

Getting deleted data off the phone is very difficult as the there is a common area where all the data (including messages, contacts, photos, application data, notes etc) are stored. Once the data is deleted the area becomes available to store new information and gets rewritten arbitrarily. It all depends on how long the phone was used after the data got deleted.

The chances deplete severely longer you use the phone after the data has been deleted.

Precision Data Recovery Engineers use Proprietary File Recovery Software, which uses complex algorithms that look at pieces of information that’s left on the media shadow area in order to locate where the file was physically stored. If it finds correctly, the data can be retrieved.

The assessment cost for deleted data recovery is an initial upfront $149 to cover the engineers time to run forensic tools on the device in order to retrieve a data image which may result in some, all or none of your data. A successful Data Recovery will cost anywhere between $195 to $495 depending on the amount of data and complexity in rebuilding the image in case of data corruption.

Due to our upfront transparent approach we like to make our customers aware that they only proceed if information required is critical a there is no guarantee’s with Deleted Data Recovery.
