Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms with over one billion active users worldwide. It’s an excellent platform for businesses to promote their brand, products, and services. However, to make the most out of it, you need to know the best practices. In this article, we'll share some tips for using Instagram for business, from optimizing video and image quality to creating compelling captions and using helpful tags.

Video and Image Quality

Instagram is a visual platform, so it’s crucial to upload high-quality videos and images. Here are some tips for optimising video and image quality on Instagram:

  • Video Resolution and Size: Videos should have an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 9:16, a minimum frame rate of 30 FPS, and a minimum resolution of 720 pixels. The maximum file size for videos that are 10 minutes or less is 650MB. For videos up to 60 minutes, the maximum file size is 3.6GB.
  • Cover Photo Size: The recommended size for cover photos is 420px by 654px (or 1:1.55 ratio).
  • Video Quality: You can choose to upload videos at the highest quality, but note that it may take longer to upload. To do this, tap your profile picture, then tap Settings, Account, Data usage, and toggle on Upload at highest quality.
  • Video and Audio Codec: For the best quality video and audio, use Progressive scan (no interlacing), High profile, 2 consecutive B frames, Closed GOP of half the frame rate, CABAC, and Chroma subsampling 4:2:0. For audio, use Stereo or Stereo + 5.1 channels and a sample rate of 96khz or 48khz.
  • Image Resolution: When you share a photo on Instagram, we make sure to upload it at the best quality resolution possible (up to a width of 1080 pixels). If you want to make sure that your photo is shared with a width of 1080 pixels, upload a photo with a width of at least 1080 pixels with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5.
  • Compelling Captions

Now that you have a good understanding of Instagrams' technical specifications, let's dive into some tips for making the most of the platform for your business:

    1. Post high-quality content: Make sure your photos and videos are visually appealing and engaging to your audience. Use high-quality equipment, choose a neutral background, and showcase your products from different angles to help your audience make informed decisions.
    2. Craft compelling captions: Your caption should tell a story and provide context for your post. Use a consistent tone that reflects your brand's personality and values, and encourage action with a clear call-to-action.
    3. Use relevant hashtags: Hashtags help increase your post's visibility and attract new followers who are interested in your content. Use relevant keywords, tag your partners and location, and try product tags to make it easier for customers to purchase your products.
    4. Engage with your audience: Respond to comments and direct messages in a timely and professional manner, and ask for feedback to improve your products or services. Start a conversation with your followers by asking questions, creating polls, and encouraging user-generated content.
    5. Plan your content in advance: Create a content calendar to help you stay organized and consistent with your posting schedule. Use insights to track your post's success and adjust your strategy accordingly.
    6. Explore different formats: Instagram offers a variety of content formats, including photos, videos, stories, reels, and IGTV. Experiment with different formats to see what works best for your audience and objectives.
    7. Boost your posts: Use Instagrams advertising tools to target specific audiences and encourage them to take action, such as making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or visiting your website.

In summary, Instagram is a powerful platform for businesses to showcase their products, connect with their audience, and grow their brand. By following these tips, you can optimise your content and maximize your impact on the platform.
